Cargo Transport
Touchdown Helicopters is able to provide a transport solution for the delivery of cargo when all other options are unavailable. Whether delivery is required to remote locations without road access, or to communities isolated due to weather events or even if road access is unavailable due to the bulk, size and shape of the cargo, then a helicopter delivery may be the best option.
Description
Touchdown Helicopters is able to provide a transport solution for the delivery of cargo when all other options are unavailable. Whether delivery is required to remote locations without road access, or to communities isolated due to weather events or even if road access is unavailable due to the bulk, size and shape of the cargo, then a helicopter delivery may be the best option.
Touchdown Helicopters has previously been engaged to undertake cargo drop operations for the following –
- Flood Relief
- Remote Community Food Drops
- Remote Location Animal Feed
- Remote Location Medical Supplies
- Construction Site building materials
- Mining Location Drilling Equipment
- Vehicle Relocation
All of our helicopters operate with a long line, cargo net and remote hook which means that they can carry cargo both externally and internally.
The total payload capacity available is a combination of the weight of the payload carried in the helicopters internal cargo locations as well as the weight of the payload slung underneath the helicopter. Typically, the helicopters internal cargo bays will be used for cargo which can be manhandled for loading and unloading; although, with sliding door access on our utility helicopters, fork lift access is also available for loading of heavier, bulkier items or palettised cargo.
When used for industrial or commercial purposes, the helicopter will have a hook fitted into its underbelly which can then have various types of payload attached using a long cable or rope and a cargo net. The mechanics of the hook and long-line allow the pilot to pick up and release the payload from the cockpit. The size and power of the helicopter dictates how heavy a payload the helicopter can lift.
In descending order, the total lift capacity (internal and external) of our helicopter fleet is
- Sikorsky UH60 (Blackhawk) 3500kg
- Bell UH1H (Huey) 1700kg
- Airbus AS350B3 (Squirrel) 1200kg
- Airbus AS350B2 (Squirrel) 750kg
Please note: Touchdown Helicopters is also able to carry “Dangerous Goods” based on approval from CASA
