2024-2025 VIC Fires
December 12, 2024
At Touchdown Helicopters, we are deeply committed to supporting the communities of Victoria during the 2024 and 2025 bushfire seasons, providing critical aerial firefighting services to help manage and contain the intense fires that have once again threatened lives, property, and the environment. One of the standout assets in our fleet during this time has been the Black Hawk helicopter, which has played a crucial role in our firefighting efforts. Equipped with a custom-built water tank, the Black Hawk has proven to be an essential tool for water bombing operations, allowing us to quickly and effectively tackle fires in some of the most challenging conditions.
The Black Hawk’s ability to carry and deploy thousands of litres of water in a single drop has been vital in fighting the bushfires. The tank’s design enables fast refills and precision when dropping water over fire hotspots, which are often located in difficult-to-reach areas due to the terrain or the intensity of the flames. By flying at low altitudes, we have been able to make multiple passes in a short amount of time, significantly aiding ground crews and other aircraft in their efforts to control the fires and prevent them from spreading further. This rapid response is especially critical during these intense fire seasons, where every minute counts in protecting lives and property.
The impact of our work has been profoundly felt by the local communities. As we fly into the heart of the fires, we know that every drop of water is helping to safeguard homes, livelihoods, and vital infrastructure. The knowledge that our Black Hawk helicopter and our dedicated crews are providing essential support to firefighters on the ground offers reassurance to the people living under the constant threat of fire. In times of such devastation, we take pride in being able to deliver life-saving assistance, knowing that our efforts help reduce the impact of these fires on the environment and give local communities a fighting chance to stay safe.
